Douglas-Cherokee Head Start/Early Head Start provides quality care for children from birth to four years old and pregnant mothers. Early Head Start (from birth to three) is only available in Hamblen County. Head Start/Early Head Start is a federally funded program for low-income families. Head Start targets 3 and 4 year old children meeting federal income poverty guidelines. Services are provided through local school systems for children with disabilities.
Head Start/Early Head Startís focus is families and to assist children in becoming more socially competent and gain developmentally appropriate skills to succeed in school. All Head Start/Early Head Start centers are licensed through the Department of Human Services and maintain a three star rating.
