The activities of DCEA are governed by a 27-member Board of Directors who represent all segments of the population living in the 6 county main area served. DCEA is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization and operates mainly under funds received from the Tennessee Department of Human Services, using federal, state and local funds to provide special services.

While we are all saddened by the death of Ray McElhaney, the long-time Executive Director of Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority, Inc., the Board of Directors of DCEA realizes that the business of the Agency must continue. Following the Succession Plan previously adopted by the Board, appropriate actions have been taken to appoint the Deputy Director, Susan Luker, as the Acting Executive Director until the search concludes for a permanent Executive Director. During the search period, Susan will have the same signatory and other operational authorities granted by the Board to the Executive Director.
